Giving Up Doesn't Mean Giving Up

I know reading that title makes your brain hurt. Hell it hurt my brain to write it but let me explain and maybe we can both stop the pounding.

No I am not going to blow things up but the gif was just too cute to pass up. Now back to the topic at hand, giving up. So what do I mean by giving up? You know those moments when you have held onto something so tight because you believe you should. Your daily life depends on whatever you are holding on to, rather it be a relationship, a job or a friendship.

My first adult giving up moment came when I worked at Knott's Berry Farm. I was living in my car with my younger sister and trying not to let our friends know. I couldn't get more than eight hours a week at work and I was about to lose my car. One day it came to a head, I could stay at Knott's and end up never getting off the streets and selling my body or I could find a better job and hope for the best. Two days later I was hired at Disneyland and was able to put myself through university. In this case giving up was the best move.

What about relationships? Or more adult jobs? Or even friendships? Treat them all the same way. Evaluate and clean out. If you truly look at some of your personal and professional friendships, they are replaceable. I have lost many friends over the years and I can't tell you what good they brought into my life while there. Don't let the fear of the unknown bring down the quality of your life.

Without quality of life there is no purpose to life. So shake off those chains and start living the life you have always wanted. Take a vacation, apply for that dream job or leave that loveless relationship. Many times when we give up on what we think is best, what we need shows up. I am going to take my own advice and do clean up my resume, hit the keyboard and find my passion.
